Poole is home to the second largest natural harbour in the world and is Dorsets' main port. It serves as both a commercial port and yachting centre. Here you will find the quayside, which has restaurants, pubs, shops and boat trips. Through out the year there are French markets, firework displays, live music and various kinds of entertainment. In the middle of the harbour and viewable from the quay is Brownsea Island. The island is owned by the National Trust and is a sanctuary for wildlife, it contains the rare red squirrel, peacocks, herons, black headed gulls, pheasants and deer. The island is covered in woodland and heath and is a lovely place to stroll around. Ferries run frequently here, to and from the quay. The park contains a small boating lake, a kiddies train, playgrounds and restaurants. Just a mile or two further up the road is Sandbanks, renowned for it’s beautiful golden beaches, this is where the pricest properties in the area are found. At the end of Sandbanks you will find the chained ferry which runs back and forth to Studland Bay.
