The town has great views over looking Blackmore Vale (part of the river Stour) and is famous for 'Gold Hill' the steep cobbled street, which is pictured in many of Dorsets books. Gold Hill was featured in a television advert by Hovis back in the early 70's/80's. Other tourist attractions are - Shaftesbury Abbey and Gardens, The Heritage Trail and nearby Wardour Castle.

The town of Shaftesbury is situated at the junction of the A30 and A350 in northern Dorset. The town is built on a hill and is one of the highest (and oldest) towns in England.
